"Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect."
Vince Lombardi

A few weeks ago, I started a personal weekly art challenge. My goal was to create quick 20 minute sketches to improve my creative agility and master a new tool while using photoshop.

So, I chose the theme of "Marvel Characters" for two reasons:

  • I like them.
  • Remember, I just have 20 minutes, I don't have time to think too much. Choosing a familiar theme I find is the most practical and efficient way to grow new skills.

Also, the limits I establish for myself were:

  • Early morning practices
  • Plain air sketching; which means I couldn't plan or draw the idea previous to starting the sketch, it had to be loose
  • References allowed, only for 20 seconds

Skills Explored

  • Quick sketching, shape explorations & memory sketching
  • Photoshop: Polygonal Lasso & Lasso Tool
